What is telc Deutsch C1?

telc Deutsch C1 is an exam for those of you who want to show your advanced knowledge of German or who need the German language in their social or professional life or at university. For a special proof of your university related German knowledge we also offer telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule.

What can I do at the level of C1?

Do you sometimes forget your first language and already dream in German? This is a good sign! At the level of C1 you have already mastered the language to a very advanced level: you can express yourself spontaneously and fluently without having to look noticeably for words, you are familiar with colloquial speech and you know how to adapt your style depending on the situation. In your social and your professional life you can speak clearly, structured and elaborately about a variety of complex topics. You have the knowledge to express connections logically both orally as well as in writing and you generally only make few grammar mistakes. You understand long and demanding texts well and you can also read between the lines. German is no longer a closed book for you!

Who should take the telc Deutsch C1 exam?

Do you have to show sufficient knowledge of German for example in the context of a job application? The certificate is proof that you have an advanced understanding of German. If you are planning on applying for university, you can also use this certificate to show that you fulfil the language requirements. If you wish to apply for this exam, you shouldn’t confuse it with the telc C1 Hochschule! The difference between them is that telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule focusses on the university related aspects of German and is aimed at all students who wish to study at a German speaking university. What if I don’t pass the exam?

You can take the telc Deutsch C1 exam as many times as you want. If you only passed the oral or only the written part of the exam, you do not have to repeat the exam as a whole. The results are usually available after four to five weeks.

How much is the telc Deutsch C1 exam?

The price for your telc Deutsch C1 exam can be found here. Please register at least 30 days prior to the exam day to avoid a late registration fee of 30€.

When can I take the exam?

The telc Deutsch C1 exam usually takes place twice a month, always on a Friday – both parts of the exam (written and oral) can be done on the same day. The results are usually available after approx. six weeks. You can find the exact dates and prices here.

What is the structure of telc Deutsch C1?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written part lasts for 3 hours and 35 minutes and checks your reading and listening comprehension as well as your writing. The oral part, which assesses your speaking, can take place on the same day as the written exam or on another day. You will have 20 minutes for preparation before the oral exam.
