telc Deutsch A1 or Start Deutsch A1 is an exam for people who have had either 100-150 hours of lessons or acquired basic knowledge of German through independent study.
Are you a beginner with prior knowledge and German isn’t foreign to you?
With the level German A1 you can use and understand simple sentences (e.g. while shopping or
asking for directions). You can use familiar and everyday expressions and you can talk about
your concrete needs (e.g. food and drink). You can introduce and answer questions about
yourself and ask other people questions about them. Don’t worry: exchanging information is
more important than grammar. You don’t have to know complex grammatical structures yet.
Yes, you can! If you have to show proof of your German level at the German embassy or the General Consulate when applying for the visa, the telc A1 certificate proves that you have knowledge of German. The certificate is accepted by all German embassies.
