Thanks to an agreement between Germany and your home country, you benefit from a visa
facilitation. But what does this look like? Quite simple: You do not have to apply for a visa in
your home country, but can enter Germany directly! When you enter Germany, you will receive a
Schengen visa that is valid for 90 days. With this tourist visa you can move freely in Germany
and the Schengen area. You can also take a language course of your choice.
It is also possible to change your Schengen visa to another visa if you are seeking a long-term
stay.
There are some special requirements that you have to fulfill:
The German language visa is the right visa for you if you aim to improve your knowledge of German in Germany. Learning the language should be your focus because working is not allowed with this type of visa. This visa is for you if you need your knowledge of German for your job in your home country and would like to return there once your course has finished where you can use German for your career. You will have to describe your need for German lessons in Germany very clearly in a motivation letter for the embassy. We will be happy to send you some handy advice for your motivation letter!
The German language visa allows you to stay in Germany for three to twelve months.
If you would like to live in Hamburg after your arrival in Germany, you must go to a formal interview to the Foreigners’ Office of Hamburg. We know from our experience that this appointment can cause some nervousness but don’t worry – speakeasy has plenty of visa expertise and we will be happy to answer your questions. The more precise your questions are about your interview, the more practical advice we can give.
It is important that you bring all your documents to your interview – this is how you show the Foreigners’ Office that you are well prepared for the appointment and will leave a positive impression!
It is important to set the right tone for the meeting, meaning you should definitely be on time.
There are some documents which are generally requested for your visa appointment. You can find a checklist for these documents here. Please also check the information offered by the Foreigners’ Office Hamburg here.
At your interview with the foreigners’ office you must prove that from the date of your appointment you will still attend a German course for three more months. This language course must contain at least 18 teaching units per week - our courses meet this requirement! When booking several consecutive months, you can get a substantial discount on the course price. This is not the only reason why we recommend booking for several months: of course, you get more time to familiarise yourself with the German language – but you also win more time for your stay in Germany!
Our language courses are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The advantage is that you always know what is expected from you at every level and what you will be able to do once you have finished your level. In our language courses you will be trained in all the important competencies.
After your registration and as soon as we have received the payment for your course, we can send you an enrolment letter (which costs 50€). You can present this confirmation of your registration to the Foreigners’ Office at your interview.
In addition to proving your registration in a language course, it is also important that you have health insurance. If you should need medical treatment during your time in Germany, your health insurance generally covers part of the costs. We will happily tell you about our cooperation partner who offers special rates for visa language students. Here you will pay comparably low fees for a tailored service.
Please note that you are not allowed to study or work with your German language visa.
We offer you:
The price for your language course also matters: one month costs 349€. Contact us to learn more about multi-month bookings!
Would you like to study in Germany and to prepare for your studies in Germany? Then you need a study preparation visa!
The study preparation visa allows you a maximum of two years in Germany – enough time to finetune your knowledge of German! As a rule of thumb, the study preparation visa is generally granted for twice the time of your language course –for example, if you attend a language course for six months, you will generally get a visa for twelve months.
As soon as you are enrolled at a university, you can change your study preparation visa to a student visa.
You can apply directly in Germany for your study preparation visa. In order to do so, you have to meet the following requirements:
It is important that you are well prepared for your interview at the Foreigners’ Office. You should clearly know what you want to study, at which university and which requirements you need to meet to be accepted there.
As the interview at the Foreigners’ Office will influence the next few months of your life, it is completely normal to feel nervous about it. But don’t worry – speakeasy has a lot of experience with visa questions and we will be happy to help you. Our support is most effective if you can send us exact questions – this will help us tailor our expert knowledge to your individual requirements.
What we can tell you in advance is this: you must bring all necessary documents with you to your interview – this is how you show that you are well prepared, leaving a good impression.
Make sure ahead of time that you know where the interview will take place and how to get there. Allow yourself a few extra minutes to make sure you will be on time.
The language course you need for your visa has to continue for three months after the date of your interview and has to contain 18 teaching units per week. Our language courses meet this requirement.
When booking consecutive months, we can offer you substantial discounts on the regular course price.
We recommend booking several consecutive months so that you get to make the most out of your study preparation visa – on the one hand you can extend your stay in Germany and on the other hand you can have time to focus on your language learning.
After you have paid for your course, we can send you an enrolment letter for the price of 50 EUR which you can show to the Foreigner’ Office to prove that you are signed up to a language course.
With our language courses you will be well prepared for university. On the one hand, you will learn how to communicate with your fellow students on a day to day basis and on the other hand you will also learn how to express your opinion in a professional context. In addition to your language course, you have the possibility to take the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam at speakeasy – the telc certificate is accepted by universities as proof of your knowledge of German.
It is mandatory to have health insurance in Germany in case that you fall ill. There are many different providers with many different rates which can make it complicated to find the right insurance for you. We are here to help you out! We cooperate with a provider which specialises in language students – this has the advantage that you get the cover you need without having to pay expensive fees.
Your visa application must generally include certain documents. Have a look at our checklist to find out which! Make sure to also read the information offered by the Foreigners’ Office Hamburg here.
