To enter Germany, you need a visa. You have to apply for it in your home country at the German embassy and only with your visa you are allowed to come to Germany.
The visa process can be exciting, but also stressful. That's why we are here to help and support you in word and deed. We have successfully helped thousands of participants from all over the world with their visa process - so we know our stuff. Here's how it goes for you:
The German language visa is the right visa for you if you intend to improve your knowledge of German in Germany. Learning the language should be your clear focus. The German language visa does not allow you to study in Germany. If this is what you want to do, you can find more information in the section “study preparation visa” just below.
Please note that it is not permitted to work with a German language course visa.
The German language visa allows you to stay in Germany for three to twelve months – the embassy will tell you exactly how long.
In order to get the visa, you must meet a few requirements. Here you find a summary of the most important documents which you will usually have to provide for your visa application. Please also check directly with the German embassy in your country.
Right now, let’s discuss the most important requirements here and let us tell you how we can support you with your visa application.
To get your German language visa, you will need your knowledge of German for a specific purpose in your home country – maybe you work at a German speaking company or you have to be able to communicate with German business partners or tourists. The German language visa is the right choice for you if you intent to return to your home country after your stay in Germany and to use your language skills there.
For your visa application, you need to write a motivation letter which has to clearly and logically outline your motivation for coming to Germany. This document is an important part of your visa application. You have to explain to the embassy why you want to study German in Germany and not at a language school in your home country. A rigorous argumentation is crucial: the embassy has to be able to understand why you want to come to Germany. Language skills for your job are one good reason, to give an example, and should be included in your motivation letter. Our speakeasy visa experts will be happy to give you other useful advice on your motivation letter.
The language course needed for the visa must have a minimum duration of three months with 18 teaching units per week. This is also possible at speakeasy! Starting with a duration of three months, we can offer you a substantial discount on the overall course price.
During your language course we will prepare you for the communication you need in your job, from the first lesson you will speak German and quickly gain the confidence you need in a professional context!
After you register and pay for the course, we can send you an enrolment letter (which costs 50€). You can add this as an official document to your visa application.
Another important aspect is your health insurance in Germany. Health insurance is obligatory, and we will be happy to advise you about different options. We also cooperate with a provider specialised in the needs of German language visa students. With their tailored rate you get the coverage you need without having to pay expensive fees!

Do you want to study in Germany and to prepare for your studies in Germany? Then the study preparation visa is the right choice for you!
The study preparation visa is issued for a maximum of two years – which does not necessarily mean that the whole two years will be granted. You should enquire at the embassy in your home country to find out how much time could be granted in your individual case.
We will happily help with your visa application!
Our visa experts have a lot of useful advice and can support you to build a concise argument for your motivation letter. The decision to study in Germany should fit into your CV –you may have already spent time in Germany, learnt some German here with a tourist visa, or there is a university programme which matches your academic profile and for which you would like to improve your knowledge of German. You could definitely mention such an argument in your motivation letter and explain to the embassy why you want to learn German in Germany.
By following this and other tips from our visa experts, you increase the chances of a successful application! To give you an idea which documents you will usually need for your visa application, we put together a checklist for you. Because requirements differ from country to country, you should also check the information provided by the German Embassy in your country.
The exact requirements for getting a study preparation visa may vary from country to country. In addition to our visa specialists, we offer a consulting service to make sure you get professional support individually tailored to your specific situation. This can include the following topics: the application process in Germany, preparing your documents for the university application and selecting the right university.
The language course you need for your study preparation visa must have 18 teaching units per week. Our language courses meet this requirement! We will be happy to advise you on the right choice of course to make sure you can start with the level you are comfortable with.
We recommend that you register for at least six months.
Once you have been accepted by university, you can have your study preparation visa changed into a student visa. You do not have to return to your home country to do so but you can have it done in Germany – and then start your success story at university!
What we offer:
Your visa course lasts for four weeks. You can find the price for one month of visa course on our price list. When booking consecutive months, we can offer you a substantial discount on your course price. Just get in touch to find out more.
The tourist visa allows you to stay in Germany for 90 days within a time period of 180 days.
If you want to get to know Germany and its language in the context of a tourist visit, the tourist visa is a good option.
On top of this, the German tourist visa offers another exciting opportunity: especially if you don’t know any German yet, it can be very difficult to get a German language visa or a study preparation visa. The tourist visa is therefore a good alternative: the requirements are not as strict as they are for the German language visa or the study preparation visa and it gives you the opportunity to increase your knowledge of German during your stay. You can even reach the level A2.2 with a combination of different course types within three months! You can return to your home country and apply for a German language visa or a study preparation visa from there. You will then be in a good position as you can prove that you already spent time in Germany and that you completed the first two levels of German. Another possibility is that you take the telc exam while still in Germany so that you also have an official certificate of your language skills. telc certificates are recognised by embassies. We will be happy to help you with the preparation for your telc exam!
